Yarn weights refer to yarn thickness from super fine to super bulky.

0 Lace

Lace or fingering

Often used I lace patterns for fine detail or on larger needles for lacy openwork patterns.

1 Super fine

Sock, fingering or baby

A fine yarn used to make smaller items such as socks or baby garments.

2 Fine

Sport or baby

A little thicker than super fine but used for the same uses.

3 Light

Double knit or light worsted

Used for small items but for larger projects such as scarves and blankets.

4 Medium

Worsted, afghan or aran weight

Great for sweaters, throws, hats etc. Known as the best weight to learn with.

5 Bulky

Chunky, craft or rug

Works up quick on large needles, great for something thick and warm especially in the winter season.

6 Super Bulky

Super bulky, super chunky or roving

This is the fastest yarn to work with and the thickest.
